I’m overrated!

Mar 21, 2010 9 Comments by Maher Jilani

2 days ago I was with a friend at the mall -she’s not Jordanian-, we was at city mall.

-

As much as a stick in the butt it really bothers me to be checked at the check points at the malls , which i really have “zero” clue why the hell do they do that! and why should anyone touch my body and check my cloths and I have to smile back at them like an idiot, and check my friends -female friends- bags! its so annoying, offensive and very provocative!

-

Like what the hell would i be holding? a suicide built? give me a freaken break!

-

It’s not the most thing that annoyed me, the thing is that we were up in the food court chilling and all, and after a while I wanted to smoke a cigarette, and as I walked out the door with my friend and smoked my cigarette we wanted to get back, and the bastard saw me “STANDING THERE” just smoking, and when I was about to get inside the mall he looked at me at the eye “Sir come over here” with all the rudness in the world, so I kept the eye contact and he started “checking” my body inch by inch in front of my Canadian “NON JORDANIAN” friend.

-

I really felt so humiliated in my own country.. its such a shame to feel that way! to be honest with you I wanted to kick the shitt out of him, but I just swallowed it because it’s not really him that I have a problem with.

-

A police car is outside the mall, police men are setting there in the cars, looking at you -in the eye- while you want to enter the mall “at the check points” and every time I’m about to enter a mall, I have to feel like I’m a damn thief and I have to “look” innocent so these guys feel better!!

-

Weather I like it or not, its there, and when you get to Mecca mall you have to look “old” so they let you in, and you find a bunch of thousand little guys thrown at the doors “because they’re not allowed to get inside because they’re young” and a very mean security guy, talking to them “Latterly” as it’s his own mall and every one WILL obey the rules!

-

Call me stupid, but I do not understand why are they doing all that in the malls! is it security? WHAT ARE THEY SECURING? AND FROM ALL THE PEOPLE??? WTF!!

-

It really doesn’t make any sense to me to complicate things that way. its so overrated, humiliating and silly!

Wow! How angry are you ? You made it sound like it’s the biggest problem ever while it’s really something tiny and stupid to even think about!

What if some terrorist decide to blow himself inside the mall ? What if some guy is carrying a gun and planing to kill someone inside the mall!, Wouldn’t you want him to be discovered by security ?

Do you want thing to be loose and everyone gets in with no questions asked ?, Those young guys thrown outside the mall your talking about are only to make fun of people and chase after girls, So it think they should stay outside :).

What is happening is good but over doing it isn’t, It’s there duty to search you, Loosen up :)

    Hey Ali,

    Thank for your comment,

Well, here is the thing, its not the “security” issue that is bothering me, who wants to have an uncovered butt! for the matter of security, yes I do think they are doing the best they can to “secure the area”.

But at the same time, look at the whole picture of yourself with some foreigner friends of yours and the security guys are treating them nice while your a “homie” are treated in that shitty way, it is really humiliating!

Sometimes these tiny little things that you see can be a stick in the butt when they happen to you.

I just think it’s “really” overrated to be physically searched and someone to touch you and search you like you are hiding something.

its not the “Issue” of security, its “How” they do it and treat people.

And no man, it ‘aint right to throw those lil guys out, they should let them in, in that matter I’d like to ask the question reversed, why let girls in then!! ‘aint they there for these little homies? come on!

did I sound that angry? it wasn’t my intention, I aint :))

    keep coming back :)

    To Maher:
Well, did you notice how they sometimes look for “bomb” in a car? they just open the trunk! As if the one who’s carrying one will make it so clear to find one like that.

    To Ali:

Who lost more in a terrorist attack Jordan or the US?
Here in the US I go where ever I want and no one stopped me to search me up when I go to a mall, movies, even governmental buildings (of course not all). You can still park your car in the hotel’s parking and you can really enjoy your freedom without having to be scanned 1000 times in the month just to enter Safeway or Carrefour to buy groceries . Another note, people shouldn’t be discriminated based on the look, who gave the right to the security guard to prevent some guys from entering and allowing others? based on what? This is discrimination. This doesn’t give a good impression about Jordan anyway. Peace.

A question we should ask ourselves is:

What exactly do these checkpoints protect from?

    A. If you say from someone doing a terrorist attack:

    - But this person who wants to do that will simply blow himself up AT the checkpoint! many people will die (those who are being checked) and people waiting in-line waiting to be checked…Besides, he or she can blow themselves up at the outdoor gates…killing many people who gather in one spot.

    - Or is it that we are more worried about the building itself from the inside? if you say yes, I have nothing more to say…
